UNAI Quiz: SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy
Access to electricity in poorer countries has begun to accelerate, energy efficiency continues to improve, and renewable energy is making impressive gains in the electricity sector. While the world has seen progress in making energy more sustainable and widely available, more attention is needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.
Annual investments of around USD $35 billion could bring electricity access for people who currently lack it, and $25 billion a year can help people gain access to clean cooking between now and 2030. The required investment represents only a small fraction of the multi-trillion-dollar global energy investment needed overall, but would bring huge benefits to one-third of the world’s population. This quiz focuses on SDG7 to discuss why affordable and clean energy matters for all.
UNAI Quiz: World Population Day
The current state of the world’s population is one of unprecedented diversity and change. In 2011, the global population reached the 7 billion mark, and today, it stands at about 7.7 billion, and it's expected to grow to around 8.5 billion in 2030, 9.7 billion in 2050, and 10.9 billion in 2100.
This trend has far-reaching implications. Population growth affects economic development, employment, income distribution, poverty and social protections. It also impacts efforts to ensure universal access to health care, education, housing, sanitation, water, food and energy. To more sustainably address the needs of individuals, policymakers must understand how many people are living on the planet, where they are, how old they are, and how many people will come after them.

UNAI Quiz: Goal of the Month – the Environment (SDGs 13, 14 and 15)
We have been exploiting and destroying our planet’s ecosystems for too long. Every three seconds, the world loses enough forest to cover a football pitch. Half of our wetlands have been destroyed over the last century.
The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) finds that a brief dip in carbon dioxide emissions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic will make no significant difference to long-term climate change. The world is still heading for a catastrophic temperature rise in excess of 3°C this century – far beyond the Paris Agreement goals of limiting global warming to well below 2°C and pursuing 1.5°C.
UNAI Quiz: International Day for Biological Diversity
The International Day for Biological Diversity on 22 May highlights the growing recognition that biological diversity is a global asset of tremendous value to future generations, and looks to raise awareness about the numbers of species that are being significantly reduced by certain human activities. The loss of diversity threatens our food supplies, opportunities for recreation and tourism, and sources of wood, medicine, and energy.
Biodiversity also offers excellent tools for combating pandemics like those caused by coronaviruses. From nature-based solutions to climate, health issues, food and water security, and sustainable livelihoods, it is the foundation upon which we can build back better from the COVID-19 pandemic.
UNAI Quiz on Sustainable Development Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
Sustainable and inclusive economic growth can drive progress, create decent jobs for all and improve living standards. Economic prosperity requires societies to create conditions that allow people to have quality jobs that stimulate the economy while not harming the environment. Increased commitments to trade, banking and agricultural infrastructure will also help increase productivity and reduce unemployment levels in the world’s most impoverished regions.
COVID-19 has disrupted billions of lives and endangered the global economy. As job losses escalate, the International Labor Organization (ILO) estimates that nearly half of the global workforce is at risk of losing their livelihoods. The economic and financial shocks associated with COVID-19 such as disruptions to industrial production, falling commodity prices, financial market volatility, and rising insecurity are threatening economic growth globally.
